about me

Rui Almeida was born in Santarém, Portugal in 1980. He photographs since 2006 and photography has become his main hobby since then.

He is self-taught and all that he learned was by trial and error, being the internet a great way of learning and also an excellent way to display his works, making possible to receive constructive feedback from other photographers.

Over time the photographer has been invited to take part in magazines, brochures, books, exhibitions and some of his works appeared in television ads. In recent years, international companies became customers, including Microsoft, Amazon, BBC, De Agostin, AOL, Spotify etc.

The photographer is quite self-critical with his work. He seeks perfection within imperfection, the uneasy peace, the restless quiet, the beauty in decay ... He enjoys several styles of photography, from landscape to abandoned places and also works in digital manipulation.

In this context he published a book that mixes images with titles alluding to poetry, giving the readers something to think about while browsing the images.

Called "Poetry in Images", it was released by the publisher Mindaffair in July 2014 and is available in Portuguese and English in a limited version.

From December to January 2015, the photographer makes its first art exhibition at the Cultural Center of Cartaxo (Portugal).
